Purpose of the post:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Field Office, assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a behaviour change and social mobilization strategy to support UNICEF's mission in the country
Major Duties and Responsibilities:-
1. Contribute to the development of a behaviour change and social mobilization strategy by carrying out/facilitating research and compiling and analysing relevant data.
2. Assist in building alliances/partnerships with religious groups, traditional leaders, teachers, artists and other organized groups in the community, as well as civil society organizations, to orient them on country programme goals and to solicit their involvement in the implementation of the country programme.
3. Participate in the design, development, pre-testing and evaluation of culturally relevant programme communication materials and activities.
4. Follow up on the production of materials and oversee the qualitative aspects of production, e.g. quality control, translation, review of layout and graphic design.
5. Monitor and evaluate the appropriate and timely dissemination of programme communication materials to target audiences, and participate in the evaluation of their impact.
6. Monitor implementation of programme communication activities by reviewing progress and identifying constraints through field visits, consultation with government counterparts, partners and community and UNICEF programme staff. Prepare analysis and reports.
Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:
1. University degree in the social/behavioural sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Health Education)
2. Minimum two years professional work experience in social development, preferably in the areas of participatory communication, communication planning, social mobilization, behaviour change and community empowerment at either national or international level.
3. Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of local working language of the duty station an asset.
4. Knowledge of current developments in the fields of adult learning theory, community organization and participation.
5. Ability to research, analyse, evaluate and synthesize information.
6. Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
7. Proven skills in communication, networking,advocacy and negotiation, especially at community level.
8. Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
