Engagement of 7 (Seven) Project Scientists on contract basis in the

India Meteorological Department (IMD)

Application are invited from Indian Citizens for engaging 7 (Seven) Project Scientists as per the following details for engagement on Project Mode (Contract) basis in India Meteorological Department (IMD), a subordinate office of  Ministry of Earth Sciences for a period of one year.

1.       Particulars of the Post (Post Code FDP-01)

Eligibility Criteria

Essential

Master’s Degree in Atmospheric Sciences/ Physics / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Communications and Networks / Remote Sensing / GIS / Hydrology / Water Resources / Information Technology or

OR

Bachelor Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/ Institute or equivalent

Desirable

Doctorate/M.Phil Degree in Atmospheric Sciences/ Physics / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science or Masters’ Degree in Engineering / Technology from a recognized University/Institute or equivalent.

            Experience

Minimum experience of 5 years in Atmospheric Modelling / operational/academic Research & Development in Atmospheric Sciences out of which at least 3 years of experience in Weather Modeling / Hydrological Modeling / Ocean Modeling / Operational Weather Forecasting.

OR

Minimum experience of 5 years in Meteorological Instrumentation / Remote Sensing / GIS / Web GIS Application Development / GUI Interface / Application Software Development / Database Management

Master’s Degree in Atmospheric Sciences/ Physics / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Communications and Networks / Remote Sensing / GIS / Hydrology / Water Resources / Information Technology or

OR

Bachelor Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/ Institute or equivalent

Desirable

Doctorate/M.Phil Degree in Atmospheric Sciences/ Physics / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science or Masters’ Degree in Engineering / Technology from a recognized University/Institute or equivalent.

            Experience

Minimum experience of 3 years in Meteorological/ Ocean Data Assimilation and Modelling/Operational Weather Forecasting

OR

Minimum experience of 3 years in Remote Sensing /GIS / Web GIS Application Development / GUI Interface / Application Software Development / Database Management

General Conditions

(i)                  The number of posts to be filled may vary.  The Department reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason. 

(ii)                The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. If the number of applications received in response to advertisement is large, it will not be convenient or possible for the Department to interview all those candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit on the basis of desirable qualifications and/or experience prescribed in the advertisement as per the specific requirement of the Department. No correspondence will be entertained with candidates who are not called for interview/selected for appointment. CANVASSING IN ANY FORM WILL RESULT IN DISQULIFICATION OF CANDIDATURE. 

(iii)               The selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India and outside.

(iv)              Experience will be counted after completion of essential academic qualifications, while a completed Doctorate degree will be counted as three years experience. In case a candidate has obtained the above degree while in service, only his service period will be counted towards experience and he will got any additional weightage in experience for acquiring Doctorate towards total period of experience.

HOW TO APPLY

a)           The candidates may use the downloadable application form. Multiple applications received would be rejected.

b)           Attach only photocopies of the following documents / certificates duly attested by a Gazetted Officer / Head of the Institution (Do not enclose original certificates).

i)          All degree certificates and mark sheets starting with HSC and up to the eligibility qualification.

ii)         Proof of date of birth e.g. CBSE/ HSC/ SSC/ Matriculation certification.

iii)        SC/ST/OBC certificate, if applicable, as per the prescribed format.

c)           Enclose a self addressed envelope (size 5”x7”) with complete postal address including PIN code affixing postage stamp of Rs.5/-.

d)           Affix one passport size photograph on the space provided in the application format and enclose one spare photograph inside the envelope indicated at “c” above. Append your signatures across both the photographs.

e)           Persons working under the Central / State Government / Public Sector Undertakings should submit their applications through proper channel.

g)           Applications to the following address may be sent preferably by Registered or Speed Post.  The last date of receipt of the applications is 23.08.2010.   Applications can be submitted by hand also at the following address.
